Favorite Things Episode 1

One of the great things about blogging is that I have gotten to connect with some amazing people and companies.  In the spirit of sharing things we love, we'll be featuring Favorite Things, a series that will showcase anything from new product discoveries, mounted shooting items, horse products, firearms products, and personal development items for competition. Today I'm sharing three products I've been using and loving lately.
1. Rockin' Bar B Ear Puffs.  These are great ear plugs for your horse and are my go to ear plugs.  My horses love them and they come is all kinds of fun colors.

2. Pro-Shot Products gun cleaning patches.  We have been using these for quite a while and they are fabulous!  They do the job and they do it well.

3. D.W. Equis Turn Out Boots.  If you like using turnout boots for your these there are a great option.  They come in 5 colors and have great heavy duty Velcro that will not come apart.

Episode 6: Horses & Gunfire

This is an episode that we could have made an hour long.  Getting your horse used to gunfire can be a long process.  In this video we give you a very brief overview of one way to do this.  Please keep in mind that most horses won't get through all the steps in this video in one session. Reward your horse when they try and be sure to quit on a high note. If your horse only gets comfortable with dry firing on the ground in the first training session that's just fine.  Accept and reward your horse's effort.  It is worth the time to do it right, trust me!
One thing that I have always struggled with is having to reload all the time.  One solution to that problem is to go to a sporting goods store or even Wal-Mart and pick up an air soft or pellet gun that uses little CO2 tanks.  Don't put any ammo or pellets in it and use that pistol to get your horse used to the gun fire.  It's a nice option because you don't have to reload very often, it's light, it's cheap, and it makes a noise but it's not quite as loud as black powder.
If you want to see another way do expose your horses to gunfire with the help of other horses, check out this video by Stacy Westfall.  As always if you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment.

Episode 4: Ammo

This is another short and sweet video.  We are briefly talking about the ammo that is used for mounted shooting.  Don't worry, we don't shoot ammo with real bullets, otherwise we wouldn't have many spectators.  ;-)  As always, if you have any questions please feel free to write them below.  Next week, HOLSTERS!

Hello mounted shooters! This weeks episode focuses on pistols for mounted shooting.  This video is intended as a brief overview.  We seriously could have done a 45 minute video just on pistols but no one wants to watch that.  Please comment below if you have any questions.
